22.5 miles from Carmel, JamesMont Ranch is remotely located in beautiful Carmel Valley, resting on 10 acres at the peak of the mountain at 2100 ft. Our unobstructed decks offers stunning views of the back of the Santa Lucia Mountains – with Big Sur just on the other side.
We are only 3 miles from the start of the 2 -3 day backpack trip over the mountains to Big Sur starting at the Los Padres Dam. Because of this we have amazingly well kept trails that are perfect for day hikes.
On our ranch, guests have use of their own Private Bedroom with Bathroom and Private Living Room, as well as the Decks around the house. European style Country Breakfast – seasonal fruit, greek yogurt with homemade granola, using Bob’s Red Mill Grains, is included in the price. Or you can choose instead to have a country omelette with artisan toast and pear jam. Both are served with orange juice, coffee and/or tea.
Expanded breakfast and a three or four course dinner is available at an additional cost, with seasonal menus on our Meal Planning page. Alternative dietary needs offered on request. Local wines available always. Seasonal flowers available with pre-arrangement.
Because of the winding roads through the mountains, please know that although we are only 22.5 miles from Carmel, the trip by car, will take you approximately 50 minutes through beautiful mountain scenery. Yes we are only 11 miles as the crow flies, from Big Sur, but the road trip is almost 2 hours.

If you wish to have guests, we can certainly cater for up to 8 guests for a seated, plated dinner or breakfast/brunch and up to 20 guests al fresco dining.
